Ioway Youth and Elders Culture Tour 2010

Aho Relatives,

Some of you are already aware that 9 youth and elders participated in a 5-day "tour" of Ioway cultural sites and other reservations last June.  From my perspective there were two primary objectives of the trip:

1) learn more about the history of the language, culture, and the land where we come from

2) learn from other indigenous communities and leaders who are applying the traditional knowledge of their people towards rebuilding the health of their communities

I attached a summary of the trip written by a couple of the youth participants and myself.  I was particularly impressed with the work being done on the Oneida Nation to restore traditional foods while contributing to the economic sustainability of their nation... 

We hope to organize additional trips and initiate similar projects at White Cloud in the near future...
